Hurling Exhibition Match Irish Sporting Event

  • Flamingo Park (11th Street and Jefferson Ave) (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

The objective of the game is for players to use an ash wood stick called a hurl or hurley (in Irish a camán, pronounced /ˈkæmən/ or /kəˈmɔːn/ in English) to hit a small ball called a sliotar (pronounced /ˈʃlɪtər/ in English) between the opponent's goalposts either over the crossbar for one point or under the crossbar into a net guarded by a goalkeeper for three points. The sliotar can be caught in the hand and carried for not more than four steps, struck in the air or struck on the ground with the hurley. It can be kicked, or slapped with an open hand (the hand pass), for short-range passing. A player who wants to carry the ball for more than four steps has to bounce or balance the sliotar on the end of the stick (solo), and the ball can be handled only twice while in the player's possession. Provided that a player has at least one foot on the ground, he may make a shoulder-to-shoulder charge on an opponent who is in possession of the ball or is playing the ball

Ask Kindly for your Irish rumor to please show up and support the Irish community

Consulate General of Ireland

Laughter is the best medicine: talented Irish comedian, David Nihill, will be performing his hilarious show “Shelf Help” at the Miami Improv on Thursday, 21 November.  Treat yourself to a night of laughter! Tickets and details are available here.

Leaving Dublin, Ireland where he was born and raised until the age of 22, David got drunk on travel and never quite hit sobriety of it. He has lived and worked in twelve countries and visited over seventy. His shows draw on his wide travels, cultural observations, attempts at language study, (occasional) international drinking session(s) and being a mildly confused immigrant.

David is the winner of the prestigious annual San Francisco Comedy Competition, (previous finalists include Robin Williams, Ellen DeGeneres and Dana Carvey) and runner-up in the Moth’s largest US Grandslam storytelling competition. Also a bestselling writer, David recorded his debut special for Dry Bar Comedy in 2019 and has been featured on TED.com, Sirius XM, Just For Laughs, The Irish Independent, Inc, NPR, and the Huffington Post among others. A festival favorite, David's videos have also gone viral many times over with over 400 million views and a social following of over 1.5 million people. More info: davidnihill.com

Key Biscayne Bay 4th of July Parade no later than 10 am, as the parade will commence promptly at 11 am.

It is essential that you align yourselves according to your designated numbers no later than 10 am, as the parade will commence promptly at 11 am.

The parade began in 1959 when a couple of local Key Biscayners decided they wanted to teach their children the importance of being an American. They called on their friends and neighbors to celebrate the 4th of July by parading through the island streets. As the years progressed, the parade organization grew.

This year marks our 65th Anniversary! The parade will start promptly at 11am on July 4th.
